What is Online Learning

Online Learning is defined as any type of learning that utilizes a network for delivery, interaction, or facilitation. The network could be the Internet, a school or college, or even a corporate organization. The learning could take place individually (guided or instructed by a computer) or as part of a class. Online classes meet either synchronously (at the same time) or asynchronously (at different times), or some combination of the two.

Online learning occurs when digital media are used to create and present course materials and learning support. It often refers to web-based resources and those delivered online but e-learning includes other digital formats, such as DVD and CD-ROM.

Some examples may include a free 2 minute tutorial, a for-credit college course or degree, corporate or certificate training, high school classes, and even online continuing education classes like those that you might take at night school or your community college.

"Over 1.9 million students were studying online in the fall of 2003."

"The expected average growth rate for online students for 2004 is 24.8%, up from 19.8% in 2003."

This site will demonstrate how online learning is used in an educational setting, in the workplace, and also in society to help improve peoples knowledge about topics related to the school, work, and individual life.
